When Ayala was entrusted with the design and build of the Donbass Palace Hotel interiors in 2001 the structure was largely completed and placed certain constraints upon the design. The only 5 star hotel in Donetsk and a member of 

The Leading Hotels of the World, in 2011 the owners decided to create a larger presidential suite and asked Ayala how this could be achieved.

The solution proposed by Ayala involved raising a section of roof on hydraulic jacks and creating sufficient headroom to house the new suite. The client brief called for a large suite consisting of entrance hall, salon, dining, study and home theatre, guest cloakroom, master bedroom and bathroom. The work had its particular difficulties as the hotel was in operation and work had to be carried out while the hotel was in use.

The opulent suite was created to harmonise with the existing hotel finishes which 10 years after the hotel opened have retained their classic beauty. The suite had marble floors and bespoke joinery with hand tufted rugs, fine Italian furnishings and chandeliers.
