Cannonbridge

Ayala was selected as interior contractor for the entrance spaces and public concourses for the Cannonbridge development below Cannon Street Station in London. The continuous seepage of water from the rail bed above and the effect of vibration related to the presence of a working train station made this project unusually challenging. Ayala’s solutions were as beautifully executed as they were effective, with the extensive use of insulating material to quell vibration and noise, and double-shell construction that created a barrier to the infiltration of water. Whilst the work Ayala did was permanent, British Rail required that it be built so that it could be disassembled within 48 hours to permit emergency access to the aged brick tunnels behind the marble and wood façades. Perhaps as much as any other project, Cannonbridge typified Ayala’s fundamental belief: Give the client what they want, and do it well.
