The Old Bible House

In England, the renovation of historic properties is highly regulated and closely monitored to ensure that the ‘new’ building remains true to the original. At the Old Bible House in London, Ayala was entrusted with the preservation of the historic interiors, and incorporating them into a prestigious new office complex. The building needed to be meticulously dismantled while leaving the façade in place, then rebuilt with the interior entrance and grand stair restored in precise detail. In compliance with the exacting demands of English Heritage, an extensive amount of reproduction plaster mouldings, marble panelling, cast iron balustrades, stone flooring and custom mahogany joinery was required, with each element being faithfully matched to the original design. The work also included specialist painting works including stenciling, faux stone finishes and trompe l’oeil.
